To be considered a candidate for membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the undergraduate must be a woman of high ethical and moral standards, matriculating as a full time student in a school in the community where a city chapter of undergraduate status is located, and must have creditably completed one grading period in school. They must provide two written references from persons who can attest to these qualities. Undergraduate candidates must have attained the semester average of C+ and the cumulative average of C+ in the semester immediately prior to submitting an application for membership. Candidates must provide two written documents as evidence of detailed community/campus involvement from a director or advisor of the activity or program. An undergraduate who is the daughter, granddaughter, adopted daughter, stepdaughter or legal ward of an active or deceased soror is considered a Legacy Candidate. This undergraduate may apply for membership under this provision. The living family-member soror must have been active for at least two years immediately preceding the membership application for Legacy Candidate. Any undergraduate who applies for membership under the Legacy provision must meet all of the qualifications required for undergraduate membership. She will not be subject to a vote by the chapter. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is a dues paying organization. For more information on the prospective cost of membership for our chapter you must attend the formal rush for the Rho Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Anti-Hazing Policy- All existing and prospective members have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. These rights are enforced by punishing violations of the Sorority's policies and procedures. A cornerstone of the Sorority's Risk Management policy is the prohibition of hazing. Hazing has been prohibited in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority since the organization was founded in 1908. In 1999, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority reaffirmed its total opposition to hazing with the publication of a tougher anti-hazing policy and the implementation of new procedures to identify, investigate and punish incidents. Hazing will not be tolerated in any form. Definition of Hazing: Hazing is defined as an act or series of acts that include, but are not limited to: Physical acts, such as hitting, striking, laying hands upon or threatening to do bodily harm to any individual(s), while acting in one's capacity as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Behavior which is directed against any individual(s) for the purpose of causing shame, abuse, insult, humiliation, intimidation or disgrace. A variety of prohibited practices, including but not limited to, "underground hazing," "financial hazing," "pre-pledging," "post-pledging" or "post-initiation pledging." Any individual or chapter violation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's Risk Management policy will result in suspension, expulsion or revocation of the chapter's charter. A fine may also be imposed.

The American Student Dental Association is a national student-run organization that protects and advances the rights, interests and welfare of dental students. It introduces students to lifelong involvement in organized dentistry and provides services, information, education, representation and advocacy.

ASDA is the largest association dedicated to dental students and has been an emphasis at all dental schools since the organization was founded in 1971.

Over 80% of dental students in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are members of ASDA. ASDA represents the interests of all dental students. This is in contrast with other student organizations that focus on specialties or special interest groups. The strength of ASDA lies in our numbers. ASDA serves as the voice for dental student issues in organized dentistry. The larger our membership, the stronger our voice and concerns are heard when we are advocating, whether it be at the ADA House of Delegates, the state societies, or in Congress.

ASDA officers vote in the ASDA House of Delegates on matters pertaining to dental education and dental practice. ASDA meetings also provide opportunities to learn about issues not taught in dental school, develop leadership skills to use throughout their career and network with hundreds of dental students from schools across the nation.

ASDA is a student-run organization. Dental student members lead ASDA national Board of Trustees, its districts, and chapters. Dental student members also comprise ASDA House of Delegates. ASDA is an extension of dental school by providing members the opportunity to develop meaningful leadership skills that will be an asset in their professional roles after dental school.

ASDA provides students an introduction to organized dentistry. When joining ASDA, students also become a student member of the ADA. ASDA members participate in activities and events sponsored by local, state, regional and national dental organizations. Leaders of the Missouri and Kansas State Dental Association meet with the ASDA chapter.

Most students will join the American Dental Association, their state association and local dental society following graduation. Participation in ASDA during dental school prepares them for leadership roles, involvement in governmental activities and skills to run a business.

Founded in 1975, the Associated Students of the University of Missouri (ASUM) is a nonpartisan, student-run organization serving 65,000 plus Missouri students. While we work with the administration on many issues–like funding for higher education–we are not formally affiliated and answer ultimately to our fellow students.

The purpose of the Black Student Pharmacist Organization is to effectively
recruit, serve, and retain Black and minority students studying pharmacy by enhancing their

the community and pay special consideration to societal barriers that have historically
limited access to resources within these populations.
2. Academic: provide meaningful learning opportunities to all professional students that
reflect on past and present contributions of minorities within the field of pharmacy.
BSPO will also educate others about different cultural intricacies associated with the
minority experience as a gateway to understanding how to best serve these
underrepresented populations.
3. Social/Interpersonal: provide social outlets for interpersonal networking, cultural
bonding, and emotional support with an emphasis or special consideration to the
challenges that Black students face in the transition to, and continued experience within
professional school. Additionally, we aim to increase awareness among high school,
undergraduate, and professional students about the significance of positive Black and
minority representation within pharmacy profession. BSPO will also serve as one of
many learning liaisons between black students, minority students, and the School of
Pharmacy (SOP) with an opportunity to build partnerships that extend beyond the current
curriculum.
4. Community Service: provide resources (e.g. intellectual, social, psychoeducational,
emotional, financial support and/or assistance) in an effort to give back to predominantly
black/minority communities. Through this endeavor, we recognize our professional
responsibility and interconnectedness as we strive to empower others within this shared

The H&R Block Foundation created the Henry W. Bloch Scholars Program (HWB) in honor of Henry Bloch's retirement. HWB Scholars are students in whom Henry could see himself: students who may not be considered for traditional scholarships due to past academic experience, but demonstrate the drive and determination to succeed. Since 2001, this unique scholarship program has provided funding toward the cost of full tuition and fees.

In 2019, our program was given opportunity to serve even more local students through an expansion of our current scholarship, and the implementation of a new scholarship: The Marion H. Bloch Scholars Program (MHB). MHB is a complement to HWB and is designed to attract, encourage and support higher performing students living in urban environments in greater Kansas City.

With the addition of MHB, the Bloch Scholars Program became an all-embracing program with a diverse pool of participants. Although UMKC Bloch Scholars differ in major, academic year, educational background, life experience and career goals, they all find commonality through being a Bloch Scholar.

Geriatric patients have unique circumstances and can have extensive problem lists that require a holistic approach; some students may not be familiar with this technique. Learning about palliative medicine will teach students about the importance of end-of-life care, when to consult palliative care during their Docent Rotation and in practice, and how a typical palliative care team operates. Having a Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Interest Group at the UMKC will provide students the opportunity to volunteer with older community members, provide students with interesting lectures about topics that are specific to geriatric and palliative care patients, help students understand the benefits of utilizing the palliative care teams, and become more prepared physicians in regards to dealing with the complexity of geriatrics patients. Even students that do not plan to go into geriatrics or palliative care careers would benefit from this group, as most specialties have many patients from this growing population.

GAB is a volunteer-driven organization established to support pre-medical students lacking access to mentors in medicine. Comprised of current medical students, our goal is to provide free personalized mentorship to students from all backgrounds, especially to disadvantaged applicants such as underrepresented minorities, GSRM, first-generation, low SES, or non-traditional students. By offering guidance on medical school applications free of cost, we aim to alleviate the financial burden and reduce disparities in the application process. While we cannot assure that our services will guarantee acceptance into medical school, we aim to reduce the stress of applications for our mentees, and we volunteer our time to provide the guidance that we ourselves wished for during this journey.
